Am I going to run into any traffic problems if I leave ATL at 4PM and head over to Myrtle Beach? I take route 20 or whatever that road is that has a 20 in it lol. It looks like it ends up right in Myrtle Beach.

Depending on the day, I would say you're going to run into more traffic in Atlanta than MB. LOL

Oh ok. I've never been to Myrtle Beach so I didn't know if it was the same size of Atlanta or not.

The worse traffic times for MB are trying to get in and out on Saturday around all of the check-in and check-out times (between 11 am and 4 pm). I went to North Myrtle a few weeks back and it was bumper to bumper from Marion all the way to Barefoot Landing. And I was on the 22 "bypass" coming in.

It took us 5 1/2 hours to drive from Myrtle Beach to Atlanta, Georgia. We took route 20 and there is nothing for miles. Very, very, nice quiet highway. Loved it.
The ride is easy and Atlanta by the airport was very quiet. Perfect highway to take. Just expect that amount of time, as our Garmin was right exactly.

Are there a lot of cops on that highway? I got a ticket back in April in Florence, SC on my way back to NY.

Leaving ATL at 4PM will be your biggest problem. I'd try to get out of there by 3PM if you can.

I travel I-20 frequently. These are places to watch your speed:

Georgia:

DeKalb County: Sheriff's deputies patrol on motorcycles quite frequently.
Morgan County: Sheriff's deputy has been in the trees in the median before
Taliaferro County: Small county speed trap
Augusta-Richmond County: They will set up radars on the overpasses and clock cars on the interstate and radio to a car down the road to pull you over. Sneaky.

South Carolina:
Columbia: Crawling with State Troopers, they're usually on I-26 more often though.
Kershaw County: Sheriff's deputies in Tahoes and Camaros, usually in a median
Lee County: Small county speed trap with an unmarked black Tahoe
Florence: Crawling with State Troopers, more on I-95 though.

I-20 ends in Florence.

HWY 501 has many small towns on it from Florence to Conway, be wary of reduced speed signs as the speed limit will drop from 60 to 35 in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the info. Sorry for the late response but I did read it before I left. The tip on Florence is definitely true. They have cops on literally every corner from what I saw. Ridiculous.

Just seeing this now...sorry I didn't post before you left. I was going to tell you to keep going beyond the "beach exits" along route 20 at Florence and exit at route 38. This avoids getting dumped on the outskirts of Florence and having to deal with all the lights. Once on route 38, just follow the signs to the beach. I used to travel from my home in Kennesaw to North Myrtle very often before making the move to North Myrtle. The worst part of the trip was getting through, around Atlanta to Kennesaw, once off route 20.
