Surfside Beach Commons is a retail center located on Highway 17 South between 15th Avenue South and Melody Lane in the Town of Surfside Beach in Horry County, South Carolina. It is presently anchored by Bi-Lo #5104. Lakeland, Florida-based supermarket Publix purchased Surfside Beach Commons in November 2014.

Bi-Lo #5104 opened for business around Friday, 16 July 1999, as store 104. It became store 5104 in 2012 after Bi-Lo acquired Winn-Dixie and all Bi-Lo stores renumbered into the 5,000's.
Bi-Lo #5104 is in the process of closing. It is being replaced by Publix.

It is unknown when Publix will renovate Bi-Lo #5104 and reopen it as a Publix.

I do not know Publix Super Markets' status in its ownership of Surfside Beach Commons. It is not typical for Publix Super Markets to allow another supermarket participant to succeed a supermarket participant's store in the retail center it owns. I have been under the impression BI-LO #5104 would close sooner than later to make way for Publix.
Could Publix Super Markets have another location in the trade area under consideration for another Publix store? The Market Common has been speculated.

BI-LO #5104 appears to be on a twenty-year lease. Southeastern Grocers, as it restructures itself, appears to be divesting stores with expiring leases.
Does Publix still have interest in a store in Surfside Beach or the Market Common?
I think it is funny how a grocery store thread is one of the most active threads in the Myrtle Beach-Conway forum. LOL
Anyhow, not sure if any of you have heard of Shipt. It's a new service where you pay $49 a year (reg $99) and they will do unlimited shopping for orders over $35 at various stores. I think it was Kroger, Publix Target and some other store, I forget.
Sounded too good to be true. So I asked them if the prices a member pays for items is the same as in store and the short answer was no. They said you would typically pay approx an extra $5 on an order of $35 than you would if shopped in store. I got a feeling that number is conservative because I am one of those people that almost only buys items that are on sale at the grocery store.
Just wanted to let everyone know about this new service and how it works.

BI-LO #5104 has closed.
I do not know when Food Lion will begin the conversion process.
