totally understand , a condo would be hell on earth for us too....for what you are describing I would say look along the SR27 corridor south/west of Lake O..................there are some smaller towns and beautiful places which will also be a reasonable drive to Miami.

otherwise I would be saying look towards Ocala/dade City

Well, last night's call was uplifting. Mom wants DH to be in a more comfortable home that will be easier for him to navigate than our current one (DH needs a hip but won't do surgery, in and out of the tub and two story house has to go).

She said wants the new place to replicate our remoteness/rural feel, too, because she knows he will not flourish in a city climate.

She is on board with Dunellon, so we are saved!

Of course, this could change at any moment..........

Muakka City on the west coast.

I knew it, now she's demanding we be no more than two hours from Miami. Is having a rural five acres with seclusion even possible two hours out?

Myakka is well over 3 hours. even Arcadia is just over...pity cos I know a very nice equestrian type property , nearly 3000 sq ft on 5 acres and rural but its a 3.5 hour drive

Golden Gate Estates. Not sure how much seclusion you need, but I am on 5 acres, close in, and I haven't seen the neighbor on one side of me in 14 years. I can't see any houses from mine either, but I can get to everything I need quickly. I ride my bike to the supermarket regularly.

I go to Miami often, and it's well under 2 hours (without traffic). Most of the time I go to Hialeah, near the airport, and it's 1:35-1:40 door to door.

Tripower, what's the noise level, traffic, etc? Sirens daily? Home security a necessity? Lock your car when it's in your driveway?

Golden Gate is going to depend on where in GG.
For all your requirements,it's not a bad compromise .
I believe you would have to own by Jan 1 in order to get a homestead exemption so you might not, the first year.
Here's a list of all that are available.

She would retain ownership so no homestead.

I just want DH to be able to handle it. We can't see any houses, and the only sounds we hear are woof, moo, and the occasional gunshot or chainsaw.
