I'm Confused...i'm wondering if the naysayers were or are living in the same naples i've been living in for 14 yrs. i live in the one that's situated just north of marco island and just south of bonita springs...and i Love It!!! i'm not rich by any means and i enjoy a glorious existence here in paradise...housing prices have dropped to such an extent(as they have in many parts of the country)that i was just able to buy a 2/2 condo in north naples(great area!) for only 180,000 Plus this complex has it's own golf course which there's no xtra fees to play! i don't mind the homeowners ass.'s as their looking out for the best interest of your investment! sure it gets hot in the summer but heck, i lived in atlanta most of my life and it felt just as hot there...o.k. maybe alittle more humid here but not only do u get use to that but all the other pluses far out weigh that negative...Naples is one of the most beautiful places in the country...i love walking around 5th avenue(even if i can't afford to shop there)lol i just go into starbucks, get my favorite coffee and stroll around...especially beautiful around Christmas with all the lights...and yes, there are jobs to be had here-especially in the health/medical field...someone mentioned snobs/snooty people in naples...i rarely have encountered such people here...i read where some young adults were complaining of no night life...that's true if your looking for a bunch of loud, wild bars, u would do better to head over to miami for that...as far as busy resturants during season, we just go earlier in the day and it's not bad...someone mentioned red tide was a current problem...

" All other water samples collected alongshore between Pinellas and Collier counties contained no K. brevis. A bloom of K. brevis, identified last week west of Lee County, remains slightly offshore (0.5 to 4 miles) between Cayo Costa and Captiva islands. No impacts have been reported. "

that is this weeks report from the red tide statewide info.site
red tide only springs up occasionaly as it does in many other areas in the country...
it certainly hasn't been a problem for my family concerning all the beautiful beaches naples has to offer...but, the absolutely best thing about living down here is the awesome winter weather! no humidity-just gorgeous blue skys and staying around the 70's in the day and dropping some in the evening...AND, no skyhigh heating bills!!
i could go on and on but i'll end it here...suffice it to say...Naples is an Awesome place to Visit or Live!!!

Yes, if you are in that field, what about the rest of the people???

Instead you get sky high cooling bills... It's a tradeoff. $300 a month is more than the $175 I have here.

When I was in NY last weekend, the daytime temps were in the low 70s. You didn't need AC because the air was dry and there was a nice breeze. After here, it felt nice and cool. Here in Naples in the early morning it can get into the low 70s, but I still have the AC going because you can cut the HUMIDITY with a knife.

In NY there was so much time, where I used NOTHING at all; no AC and no Heat. It costs nothing to open or close windows. Here in SW Florida, the AC is going constantly.

I'm curious-are you retired and/or do you have children in school here?

My wife is in nursing school right now and for the first time she is worried about getting a job. The HR department of the main hospital told one of her classmates they have ten applicants for every RN position.

One of the weekend days that you were in New York got up to 78 with humidity in the 70s. At the moment in Naples, it's 72 with humidity at 71%. It's supposed to get up to 83 there today, so a few degrees warmer than when you were in New York last weekend, but about the same humidity. I know we don't like facts to get in the way of a good, prolonged rant, but it's hard for me to ignore them.

And we all have to look at the dew point, that is more important than the humidity level. If the dew point is over say 50 degrees when it is 85 out as a temp, it's going to be more uncomfortble. The dew point average in summer in Cape Coral for istance is 70-75 degrees(really high), but winter it is 35-40 average. Right now in Cape Coral the dew point is 63, humidity 60% temp is 77 feels like 82. That's not too bad. Up here the temp is 50 dew point is 19 degrees, humidity is 25%. Nice dry air. So it's not all about the humidity.

You want to question EVERYTHING if it in anyway goes against your preconceived views of Florida. You don't even LIVE here. Even to the point of wanting to write to complain to the COUNTY CLERK about somebody you don't even know "getting away with" not claiming Florida residency. Damn. Get a life. MOVE HERE for damned sake, if you are so hell bent on Florida.

Let's steer this back to the OP's questions please:

What is it like to live in Naples? Is it easy to make friends in Naples? Etc.

Debate the ideas all you want, but please keep it civil, don't make it personal. Thanks. -mod

They're baaaaaack! The Snowbirds that is. Well, at least my neighbors next door are, from the UK and Pa. They both had Welcome Back parties yesterday. Fun. The ones from Pa. drove down on Saturday. I could hear their entire conversation from my lanai. He said they were staying until March or April. Uh, oh. They aren't Snowbirds. They are PERMANENT residents. Better get that Pa. van registered in Florida.
