I have been to Nashville numerous times but I am hoping to re-locate at the begining of the year. I am 23 and have 2 boys(a 9 month old and a 4 year old). I am looking to rent for a while. I would like a 3 bedroom apartment in a nice neighborhood, somewhere that I can feel safe with my boys. I am hoping to get a job at one of the local hospitals as a pharm tech but if not, will be working at a local pharmacy. I obviously cant spend alot....I am hoping to stay around $700 a month for rent for a 3 bedroom apartment.

I don't really know alot about what parts of town are safe and which parts of town to stay away from. If you can offer any help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much!

I'm thinking $700 for a 3 bedroom might not be enough. But WHERE in "Nashville" do you want to live? When you come to visit, in which part of the city are you visiting? I am trying to find a 2 bedroom in Franklin for friends of mine and that's just about the bottom line here.

That's what I was afraid of. When I go to Nashville, it's to Vanderbilt Children's because my son has to go there for checkups since he has had heart surgery. So, we pretty much stay where we can find the cheapest hotel room. I could probably go up to about $800. I have thought about Franklin as well. I don't really care what part of town I am in, just as long as it is SAFE and family friendly.

You are not going to really find anything that is considered nice at $700 for a 3 bed room. Most of the nicer or even average apartments in Nashville start around $600-$700 just for a 1 bed room. You may can find an older condo for around $700 but you will have to really search to see what is out there.

As far as the rent issue goes, others are right...you'll have to be very smart about where you rent and the quality of the space. That said, I think you can find something if you really search hard and are willing to make some compromises, especially a condominium/townhome.

I'd look in the following areas:

Bellevue-convenient to Vanderbilt (20 minutes or so west of Vandy), affordable, good selection of rentals, not sure about schools since it is Metro/Nashville School System, lots of young professionals and families
Goodlettsville-north of town, good selection of rentals, family-friendly, lots of shopping/easy to get around, but most likely you'll be zoned for Metro again (part of G'ville is in Sumner County and the schools there are much better...but there aren't many rentals in that area that I'm aware of), 25-30 minutes to Vandy
Hendersonville-northeast of town, great schools and location, family-friendly, about 30-40 minutes to Vandy, but I think you might have a harder time finding something in your budget. But do check out the condos on Sanders Ferry Rd near the marina. They're older, but I believe you'll have better luck finding something there.
Mt. Juliet-east of town, 30-40 minutes from Vandy, family friendly, pretty good schools (Wilson County), up and coming area. Not as many rentals, though.
Hermitage-east of town, 25-30 minutes from Vandy, Metro Schools though, some rough edges every now and then, but a good amount of rentals in the area.

Hope that helps and be sure to ask us questions if you have them!
