There are SO many posts from people wanting to relocate here that I wondered, in case Nashville gets TOO FULL, what would be your #2 ideal place to live? Or maybe there are people on the board who used to live here and have relocated. What do you MISS about Nashville and what do you NOT miss. I am just preparing myself in case we turn into Chicago!

Having moved from CT, I miss the lovely casino, Mohegan Sun, and a lobster/fish place 'down the shore' called Lenny & Joe's. But we didn't get to the ocean (Long Island Sound) more than once or twice a year so I don't miss it all that much.

I also miss the excitement of a pending snow storm, getting in cosy comfort food and extra batteries, etc. But I don't miss shoveling or sliding around trying to get up the hill to get out of the neighborhood (only way out was UP!)

I really love how friendly people are here and I am getting used to "meat & 3" although it's usually meat & 2. I love it here but maybe it will be TOO 'loved'???

hmmmmm, My plan A was to go to Atlanta (I know how original, lol) but the housing is great and my best friend and god children live there so instant support system.

Honestly Nashville wasn't even on my radar, out of the 300 plus people I work with only 26 said they would be willing to go to Nville! Yikess

What I will miss about NYC is my extended family (My parents fortunately said they would follow us wherever we go, there's that only child syndrome again I will miss running out to the "bodega" at 1am b/c we ran out of cat food or need more paper towels. I will miss the best crab legs ever in life at the "Crab Shanty" on city island. I won't miss getting a ticket on my car when you forget to move the car for alternate side of the street parking rules. I won't miss the tourists blocking the streets when I'm trying to get to the train to go home "No I will NOT take a picture for you" MOVE! LOL

As long as we don't bring Chicago weather here or turn into classless Blackhawks fans, I'd probably just deal with it.

I think if I was able to move anyplace in the States I'd end up in Spokane, Washington of all spots. Loved going there when I was growing up.

I've always loved Cincinnati and would probably look there if I were forced to relocate. I would also give the greater DC area a look...I've always loved visiting there and came relatively close to moving there for a job opportunity after college. I'd love to have a place in the Florida panhandle (generally more culturally "southern" than other parts of FL) but would also look in central FL and Sarasota (has always seemed like a great "sleepy" Florida community...a place where retirees settle and tourists generally avoid).

Don,

It was between Nashville and Cincinnati when we moved here about 2 years ago and I would have been happy either place. More house for your moneuy in Cincy but higher property taxes and I think more traffic. I am 'calmer' here.

Sarasota was where I went to college in the 70's and it WAS a sleepy town then. Having been back recently I am shocked at the number of highrise and cement block apartment buildings that have popped up along the bay front near the Van Wezel (?) performing arts center. Prime real estate but way overbuilt. But back in the 70's it was fun to be a hippy amongst the retirees.

I might consider Cincinnati in the future but in all honesty am thinking about retiring overseas . . . someplace like Vietnam or Eastern Europe. . . .

But there might be cicadas in Vietnam . . .

That's my take on it as well. The weather is worse up there I think...they get much more snow than we do, but get all the humidity and heat of Nashville too. I love the feel of the town though, it definitely has a cool downtown...lots of art deco...some fairly cosmopolitan areas. Definitely not like Nashville.

We've stayed out in the vast condo suburbs of Sarasota before and while it's very dense with retirees, we liked that it was a very walkable city or bikeable. Some great food down there too. Siesta Key is just an amazing beach.

That area around the arts center is amazing. We've seen it grow up over the years as well. Lots of great art all around the city, too. St. Armand's Circle is pretty amazing too, with all the upscale shopping.

I bet the cicadas in Vietnam would eat our cicadas for breakfast.

NOT ME! But a group of New College (where I went to school) students were the first to run around St. Armands Circle buck naked one sunny afternoon. (It was called "streaking") Made the front page of the Life section of the local paper. Caused quite a stir! Apparently someone alerted the media beforehand. No Facebook in those days . . . .

I would go down there for a cheese shop which is probably not longer there.
