My family is looking to move to the Nashville area within the next two years. We are moving because of a private school for our daughter and self employed and can move any anywhere. We are from the north, my questions are where can we purchase a house on a decent lot between $200,000 and $350,000? Also the school we are looking into is in Franklin so we would like to live within 20 minutes. We are a mostly conservative family and religious so I don't think that will be a problem.

My other question is how do northerners fit in with the south around this area? Also how is the area for raising children? So far I have heard great things from others but I would like some more feedback. Anything is appreciated

Northerners fit in fine here as long as they don't move in and constantly talk about how much better everything is up north or ask prejudicial questions about why we're "so" backwards, slow, unhealthy, etc. There are a ton of transplants here, so if you are friendly, you will be fine.

What is your definition of a "decent" lot? Do you mean size-wise? The area is very family-oriented.

There are a lot of subdivisions with quarter-acre lots that will be in your budget, most with older homes: Forrest Crossing, Founders Point, Cottonwood, Redwing Meadows. It mostly depends on your taste. Here are some examples:

Thanks for the input, no problem with talking about the north to be honest I can't stand it here and we have been waiting to get out for a few years. People aren't that friendly and the weather makes it an awful place to raise active kids when we have to stay inside 6 months a year.

For lot size we were thinking between .25 to .75 of an acre or so, we would like a pool. Is it easy to find a house with a pool?

I wouldn't call it easy. It would be easier to find a subdivision with a community pool that only neighborhood residents use. The neighborhoods I mentioned above all have them (except Redwing Meadows).

Unfortunately our regional MLS website does not have a feature that allows you to select homes with a pool.

It will be hit or miss in that price range. Here is one example that I found by entering your preferences on realtor.com:
