Nashville's Metro Council is going to vote tonight on a potential rezoning of 455 acres in midtown. The plan would allow development higher and closer to the street and is designed to increase density and maek the area more pedestrian and transit friendly.

Hopefully this will pass.

If it truly does put housing near jobs and keep people off the interstates, helping to prevent sprawl, then it works for me.

It sounds like the council is taking things into account, like historic properties and allowing property owners to opt out.

Even so, it would affect the values of some properties as the land becomes more valuable than the building on it.

The rezoning measure was approved last night, but parts of it will be delayed until they decide on design standards. I think this is a nice step forward for Midtown.
