What are your favorite farmer's markets in Middle Tennessee? Is there a vendor you like in particular? A specialty item? I notice that a lot of little communities have farmer's markets.

I'll reply to my own post.

I visited Thompson Station's farmer's market yesterday. 2-6 pm, Wednesdays. Right across the road from Thompson Station Church. Parking was a bit awkward with no clearly marked parking spaces and pulling out of the market to leave a tiny challenge (I imagine that challenge is bigger in rush hour), there were a snow cone stand, several veggie stands, a maker of beautiful cutting boards, a vendor with jams and jellies, a vendor with clover and wildflower raw honey, a couple of vendors with baked goods, a couple of vendors selling jewelry, a vendor selling rustic looking signs. Laid back, fun, and in the first hour, not crowded yet. The produce looked so good! I didn't take enough cash to buy much.

Was a nice drive - and we got a little something extra - there was work on some power lines that had the road down to one lane on my way to the market and by the time we were headed back toward Franklin, police were rerouting traffic around it to Lewisburg Pike, a value-added scenic route.

Spring Hill's FM is today with a bouncy house and petting zoo for the kids and food trucks according to a post that went through my facebook feed.

Great idea for a thread . . sorry I didn't answer sooner!

I have been to the downtown Nashville market and it's very impressive, particularly the 'food court'! Parking was good, I approached from a round about way (from the East) to avoid going through downtown. Only issue I have is that I think there's some produce from other places - like Florida or Atlanta. But then, you get tomatoes when they aren't available here . . so it's six of one and half dozen of the other.

Franklin is much closer and last weekend it was packed even thought I was there at 8:30 AM. I park up by the front of the Factory to avoid the bottle neck in the market parking lot. You will always find a place, though, if you park closer to the front. Seems like it's all very seasonal. I bought lettuce (Spring mix), fresh beets (two flavors), leeks, some sweets, and my favorite spicy pretzels. VERY addictive! There's bread, goat cheese, meat, the wonderful cider donut stand, music, tie dye shirts, fresh flowers, plants (tomatoes, herbs, etc), some crafts, coffee, and there were two food trucks last weekend. About half of it is under cover and it goes on rain or shine. A lot of fun and feels very local.

Agreed, the Franklin market is wonderful. Favorites include Delvin Farms and Norton Family Farms. Hank Delvin is often on hand to answer questions and tell you what's coming up next. He has great recipe ideas! Karen Norton and her family run the center booth with produce (their salad greens and Sun Golds are fantastic), scones, muffins, cakes, jams/jellies, etc. She also caters and offers seasonal items like top-rate fruit tea, chicken salad, mini-quiches and pumpkin rolls. Yum!

Don't forget to hit up the coffee lady in the rear right corner of the covered area. And pick up the world's best chocolate milk from Hatcher Dairy. Oh- and the delicious kettle corn or fresh, hot donuts or Amish pasta or freshly-baked breads...you get the idea
