I recently accepted a job at Tennessee State University. After the first of the year, I will be moving to Nashville from Springfield, IL for the job. I am a single 30 year old female and would like to live in a neighborhood near campus that is considered safe. I have been looking at apartments online but any advice regarding apartments or any tips regarding living in Nashville would be greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid I don't know of anything in that area but it would help to know what your budget is for the apartment? Nashville is 'booming' right now and occupancy rates for apartments is very high. Does TSU have a housing office that could give you ANY help??? Congrats on the job!

My budget is around $800 a month. That is a great suggestion to see if TSU has a housing office - I will check the website tonight. Thanks! I am excited about the job but scared about moving to a city where I don't know anyone. If anyone has advice on the best places to hang out, I would appreciate any advice.

The only time I have been to Nashville was your the interview but I have some tryouts planned to look at apartments.

I would like to be pretty close but a safe neighborhood is priority over proximity.

Just found this website called For Rent University. I plugged in TSU and the following came up. They all say contact for price but in terms of finding apartments near universities it MIGHT be a good resource???

Off-Campus Apartments Near Tennessee State University | Search Available Apartments Close to Tennessee State University,Tennessee State University,TSU,Tennessee State University - ForRentUniversity.com

If it's helpful, let me know!

When you say TSU, are you going to be at the Downtown campus or the north Nashville main campus? Either way I'd rent a a place for a year around that whole West End Aklen Ave, Gulch, anywhere around downtown there are a bunch of new apts. Maybe Elistion Place if you can. Renting rooms in nicer homes is also and option or short term corporate until you orient yourself to the area. Lots of coops and condos and scattered single families for rent as well. The choices are many, you really need to visit again and invest some time online looking at things.

Thanks for your response. I will be at the main campus in north Nashville. I have been looking online at apartments in the Bellevue area. I will online at the apartments in the Gulch but most of the apartments that were available were out of my price range. I will look at apartments in West End Aklen Ave. area. I plan on visiting with in the next couple of weeks.
