We live in the suburbs of Phoenix and make trips to Las Vegas often/hang out late so I suppose loud and bright is all relative and certainly we are up for it all. Sounds like Franklin might be more like many areas around Phoenix. As mentioned, downtown Nashville seems to have its unique vibe so I think that would be our choice on this trip though Franklin might be worth a stop sometime down the line too.

The url you posted isn't active/not sure where you got the $111 rate which certainly would be nice. I went to hotels.com, tripadvisor, marriot directly, etc and all I see for 1/20 is $179 a night. Where did you see that rate/could you post a working url if you still see that rate? Thanks.

Thanks again everyone for the great detailed advice. Really appreciate it. Look forward to checking the city out, even for a brief time.
It was on the Marriott app but isn't showing up now.

Hope you enjoy the city.

A good resource for local events is The Nashville Scene which will show lots of great restaurant suggestions, concerts, events, etc. Probably a little overkill for just a one night stay (you really should just do Broadway and maybe one more area of town like the Gulch, West End, etc)...but maybe check it out to see if there's something can't-miss for you.

If you like Vegas, then you'll like Lower Broad . . BUT it's much much smaller. It's just 4 blocks, from 1st to 5th. Kinda like walking the Strip from Flamingo Road to Harrah's. There's stuff on side streets too but Broadway is quite small. Have fun!

I would recommend Opryland over any hotel in the downtown area, quieter and much better service-plus it's right near Opry Mills mall which a pretty spectacular shopping center. You can always park downtown and take the bus there. Number 34

I wouldn't base my decisions around going to an overcrowded outlet mall.

An update on our trip. Turns out the day we were going to arrive was cold and rainy and snow was possible so we didn't make it. And with temps near freezing, we decided it wasn't a good time to visit. We will get back one day though to visit. Next time we plan to have more time so perhaps in the end this works out better.

Thanks again everyone for the info. Hope your city dug out ok from the snow I heard you received this past weekend. Yikes!

Bet that overcrowded Opry mall would have been soo happy to see anyone & you too. Wednesday would have been not so bad, just get extra morning coffee before you set out. Thursday would be fine, just go to Kroger buy the bread & milk. Friday's big daddu started earlier than expected. You could take your laundry basket sled to the Capitol Hill grounds & slide down. Visit the bicentennial state park, Farmer's Market. Friday nite the Grand Ole Opry put on another great show, repeated Saturday night. You can still tune in WSMonline.com or get the Opry app anytime you want to listen in. Monday morning a lot of snow had melted, could have been a chore trying to fly out of BNA. By Tuesday all was Gone.

Next big daddy storm may be Tuesday if the groundhog needs an umbrella but not a boat.

My wife and I stayed there for a recent birthday getaway. We live inside the 440 loop but wanted to "get away" from everything for a night. I was largely disappointed. The room is nice, but nothing special. We had a balcony overlooking the atrium, which was nice for the 15 minutes we sat on it. We paid downtown rates for a suburban location and a hotel room that wasn't any nicer than a what a half dozen hotels offer downtown. The parking rates are horrendous too. They have gobs of surface parking yet still charge $24 for self parking. There's also very little in the way of Uber/Lyft out in Opryland area meaning you have to drive everywhere, even to the kitschy Music Valley Drive restaurants.

From now on, we'll head downtown to a hotel and be within walking distance of everything for the same price.

Malls have zero appeal to us. Music/downtown is the main thing we had interest in.

We would have been just driving through, staying one night, Wednesday. The temps alone on that Wednesday night we would have been there was enough to make us not want to be there, in the low 30's. I looked at the historical temps of Nashville on that date and it indeed got that cold. Our low desert blood doesn't work at those temps.
