Hi All,
I will be relocating to Nashville for a job in the next upcoming months. The information I've found so far seems to be pretty conflicted on where to live. Right now we currently live in Aurora and own a 2100 sq single family home. We pay about $1500 a month in our mortgage. We had no kids and 2 dogs so at this time the schools aren't a huge priority for us. I'd love to find an area similar to where I am now. Something like Aurora, Chagrin, or Hudson. It doesn't necessarily need to be as far out from the city as we are now, but I really need it to be safe enough to walk our dogs without worry. While I know that home prices are more expensive in the Nashville area, I'd like to keep our monthly payment between 1-2K a month. We would be open to a townhouse or apartment and as much as a 45 min. commute. Any information you can share is appreciated. Thanks!

You don't say what part of town you will be working but Bellevue sounds like it would be a good fit. Close to downtown Nashville and safe.

I'm originally from Northeast Ohio and am very familiar with the cities you mentioned. What do you specifically like about the area in Aurora that you live in? Also, what are some of your hobbies/interests, so we can try to match up similarities in the Nashville area? Also, work location will be important to judge what would be 45 min. or less for your commute.

I am also from NE Ohio, though have only been living in Nashville for a year (we love it!). It has been many years since we lived in NE Ohio (grew up in Cleveland Heights, lived in Twinsburg, Stow and Ravenna). We live near the Lenox Village area (in the area where Antioch and Brentwood meet), which is a very nice, safe community. Different options in homes - side-by-side town homes, individual homes, apartments.

There are a number of communities that do not have sidewalks for walking, and some that have sidewalks on just one side of the street. I feel like people take care with those on the side of the road, whether walking or riding a bike.

Please do share about your planned place of employment (location within the big Nashville area) as that will make a big difference on where you might look for a home.

I would also recommend Lennox village. I've had some younger friends live there and they enjoyed it. Bellvue is also a good choice and Franklin would be a great choice as well, however housing prices near franklin will be much more expensive. I'm originally from central ohio and have been here for about 4.5 years.

I would also echo what the other posters have said--it really depends what side of town you'll be working. There is plenty of potential for a 45+ minute commute in this town, with traffic and distance. Nashville seems to be more and more popular for buckeyes, so you'll see plenty of scarlet and gray. My extended family is out of Cbus and it seems all of them have friends that have moved here!

Let us know where you'll be working (area), and if there's anything else you want to be close to (lakes, greenways, urban/suburban), and you'll get a lot more direction from this group. Since you're open to multiple types of housing, you should have plenty of options.

We moved from Twinsburg to Franklin almost three years ago. Raised two kids up there and after they moved out, I was looking for some place with better weather. Never want to see 'lake effect snow' again.

As far as the question about someplace like Chagrin Falls or Hudson, Franklin has that in spades. The downtown Franklin area is Hudson's downtown times 10. I've used that quick description to people back in Ohio when talking about the area. As Hudson is one of the more affluent areas in NE Ohio, so is Franklin. Really, much of Williamson county is like Aurora, Chagrin Falls and Hudson.

Housing values are climbing quickly and inventory is low. Lots of commercial development happening outside of the historic areas and downtown (Google The Battle of Franklin to explain historic areas). As far as the commute, I can make it from my front door to most of Nashville in 20-25 minutes outside of rush hours (I'm fairly close to 65). If you would commute during rush hour, it likely would be twice that time although I only drive those hours occasionally and that is to and from the airport. Let me know if you need further Aurora comparisons.
