I am moving to Nashville and would love to get some feedback on neighborhoods.

I am a single female, late 20s. I will likely be working from home and traveling all around Nashville for my job- I can work around traffic in most instances by leaving before or after rush hour most days.

I am looking for a neighborhood that is:
1. Safe
2. Has a fairly walkable strip with some local restaurants or shops
3. Affordable
4. Has a yoga studio or is sort of artsy/hippie/alternative but this is not a dealbreaker for me.

I hope to spend no more than $1000 for a studio, 1 bedroom, or the like. If I could get a 2 bedroom apartment or house in an affordable neighborhood that isnt so walkable, I would consider that as well. I would love the most bang for my buck.

I will be visiting the area soon- what areas should I check out?

Thank you!!

You won't find anything decent for that. You have to go up to at least $1,300 to find a studio or 1BD in a decent neighborhood. Most bang for the buck? Find a roommate.

If I was in my 20s, I would find a roommate/housemate situation and try to stay within 440 or West End.

Not trying to pile on here but for that you would need a roommate. But I guess that also depends on how far away from the city you're okay with.

There is an older apartment complex near MBA on Harding that is advertising 1bd apts for $1k/mo. The location isn't bad.

Hmm. These response surprise me. There seem to be options on craigslist.

What neighborhoods should I be looking in aside from the price? I guess I can increase to $1300 if i must. I'm not getting a roommate.

Average rent in Nashville for a 1BR is $1200 right now.

If you are serious about your #2 requirement, and #1 is a must-have, then I would look in 12 South, Belmont/Hillsboro Village, parts of Germantown, and Edgehill.

You could get a 500-600 sq-ft apartment for around $1300 in Brentwood at Tapestry, which is walkable to tons of retail and restaurants.

There are other "walkable" areas in Nashville, but whether or not they are safe depends on the time of day or night.

Walkable is tricky in Nashville because there are plenty of parts of town where you could walk to retail, although it would be along a busy 5-lane road and not necessarily to the "artsy/hippie" stuff you described.

Also, I would use Padmapper over Craigslist.

I just put in $1000 as a max in Craigslist, and from what comes up, I would not suggest looking at any of those places. Your #1, #2 and especially #4 fail for all. And the ones that have fake pictures are probably scams.

Craigslist is full of scams in Nashville. Just a heads up.

Craigslist does seem a bit scammy.... some look just too good to be true!

I am a bit disappointed though because I'm in San Diego paying $1525 for a 1 bedroom 3 blocks from the beach in a hippie town. I was hoping I could save money on rent. Good I know this now because I dont think I will take a salary much less than what I'm making now!

What about East Nashville?

And when it comes to securing a ln apartment...should I just make the move and plan to stay in a hotel for a week or so to make sure I can see the apartments in person? I feel it may be too complicated and risky to arrange for an apartment across the country...
