I have a job offer in Franklin, TN. Great job. Great opportunity. We would be relocating from Colorado Springs, CO! Should we do it?

If we go, where would be the best place to live? We have 4 children ranging in age from 3 to 13. We would like a place that is family safe/friendly, but somewhere that is forested/rural. While we are looking for the perfect place, we would like it to be affordable (<$200K).

Hendersonville doesn't seem like a good option, because I would have to commute through Nashville to get back and forth to Franklin.

Also, a very strong evangelical church is really important to us. And my wife home-schools the children.

Any advice you can give would be great!

Some of the other people who live in or around Franklin can help you with more specifics that I can. There are plenty of woods in Tennessee, but sometimes the newer subdivisions have been "de-wooded". If you don't mind a little commute you'll be able to find something that will seem rural and in your price range. $200k would be on the low side for many of the nicer areas in Franklin, but some of the outlying areas are more reasonable. I'll offer one suggestion just to get you started: Nolensville, or one of the areas nearby. It would be reasonably close to Franklin, while being less expensive than Franklin itself.

I agree that there's absolutely no reason to move to Hendersonville if you're going to be working in Franklin. It would be one thing if you had family in Hendersonville, but in your case it doesn't make any sense.

As for the "should we do it"? I would vote yes! We are recent transplants to the Nashville area and absolutely love it. It still gets cold here, but the snow doesn't stay for long. There are parks, rivers, and outdoor activities galore here and a LOT of history for children that are home schooled to learn.

I would have edited my post above, but with the way the forum works, one can't edit their own post after a certain time limits.

Anyway, you can find any and every kind of church you want around here. I've known a few people from out-of-state who have moved here and said in amazement, "There's a church on every corner here!". That might be an exaggeration, but not by very much.

And, to anyone who reads this and would like to complain about the religious aspects of living in Tennessee, please do it on another thread, or start your own. I am not a church-goer myself, nor do I identify myself as a Christian; I am just answering the original poster's questions as best I can.

What about unofficially?

You could try Fairview (western side of Williamson County-west of Franklin)...or somewhere down I65 south of Franklin, but I'm guessing $200k isn't going to buy you a whole lot as far as acreage in Williamson County. North of town will be a nightmare commute and since you have kids I think Williamson County would be a good choice for the schools. Or you can try the west side of Murfreesboro. As far as churches you might try People's Church in Franklin-I don't go there, but it seems to be a popular church in the area.

I second Nolensville and you might want to look into the Triune area as well.

If you don't mind driving, you could go as far out as the Columbia area 30 miles to the south of Franklin.

There's areas all up and down I-65 past Spring Hill that could work for you, ie rural and wooded.

You could easily get a home in your price range. Since your wife home-schools you don't have to worry about the school district aspect.
