To me the leaf looks like an elm. American Elm is one possibility.

Yes, the uneven base of the leaf is what you see on elm leaves. Nice find!

It's hard to tell from the tree photo, but the base of the leaf is the biggest giveaway that it's probably American Elm, as mentioned above. The lobe on one half of the leaf is lower than the other half--indicative of elm.

Thank you! That was my suspicion, but am no plant expert. Thanks for the confirmations.

Was gonna take a picture of the bark, but got too busy today. Maybe tomorrow.
