Far from buckling to the controversy over killer whales in captivity, SeaWorld is doubling down. Its announcement Friday that it will spend hundreds of millions of dollars to double the size of the whale tanks at its parks in San Diego, Texas and Florida shows it is fully committed to using whales as the parks’ centerpiece attraction for many years to come. That should be good news for SeaWorld — and for San Diego.

I'm not an extremist animal rights activist, but I think that an animal as intelligent as an Orca would prefer the freedom of the open ocean to being in a tank, no matter how big the tank is. Although an Orca that has been in captivity most of its life might not survive if released, I don't think any more Orcas should be captured to be put on display for our entertainment.

sea world makes too much money selling whale sperm to other parks to stop using whales. they are not in it for the animal but the money. I will never support them.

I am completely against this. There is no way it can be justified.

The protesters were out hassling innocent bike riders at the entrance here in SD. The bike path is next to the road and for whatever reason they saw fit to make sure no one could ride by. No one on a bike was going to Sea World, they are all locals.

I can't imagine the misery they must go through.
