I've seen & heard lots of "eeeeeewwwww, you live THERE" about Pahrump &/or Nye County. I didn't see any photo threads about what it looks like out here so I thought I'd start one.

A couple of basic facts: Pahrump is located in Nye County. We have our own electric company, our own water companies & a completely different way of life. We are not Vegas & we don't want to be Vegas. Life out is here is much slower than Vegas. It's not uncommon to find ex-Vegas people living here & loving it....YES LOVING IT!

Nye County covers 18,000+ square miles. We are the 3rd largest county in the United States. Pahrump is at the bottom part of the county, Tonopah (3 hrs north) is in the middle of the county & right now I'm not sure what town is the the furthest north of me

Now let's see if I can figure out how to get some pictures posted out here.....

I've been told there are only 2 places like this in the United States. They have condos you can purchase & you can either rent one of their vehicles (LeMans, Porche or a Vette) OR you can bring your own vehicle! They have plans to open a hotel next to door to them so their customers have a place to stay - we have a shortage of hotel rooms available to us at this time

The rain storm we had recently at the beginning of the month produced the 1st snow of the season! You are looking at the backside of Mt. Charleston. This is just one of the mountain ranges surrounding our valley. From the center of town, we can be in the snow in ~20 minutes! No, there is no way for us to get to the lodge or ski resort from this side of the mountain

How is the broadband wired internet here? Is it fast? Or do you have to instead rely on satellite internet?

What is the average price of a home?

ISP choices are slim to none out here. AT&T covers some, not all, of the valley. CMA does the same. Air Internet has some good options. Key On at one point was over sold & so every night around dinner time...it was painfully slow. I've been told they've upgraded some of their equipment & fixed that problem. Past these options, you're looking at satelite.

As for home prices, we are cheaper than LV. Majority of our lots are ~1+ acres, but if you don't want that large of a lot, you can find smaller places too. Prices range from $80k up to $300k. You can find places above $300k but they are not as abundant. If you're looking for something specific, let me know.

O.K. thank you. Broadband very important for us. It's how we watch TV (Apple TV) and movies (Netflix), do shopping, online business, games, etc. Got to have an A+ broadband connection with no downtime, low pings, low latency.

I had vacationed in LV for years before deciding to move to NV. I had read about Pahrump on the internet, but never been. One trip I asked a local how did one get to Pahrump? She told me to take Blue Diamond & stay on that. My 1st trip to Pahrump seemed to go on & on & on & on. There is a mountain pass that we went over & still to this day it's the best part of the trip. During the winter it will be covered in snow & occasionally closes due to the weather. Majority of the time if it is closed, it's due to an accident.

If you do wander thru the mountain pass, keep your eyes open! You can find bighorn sheep wandering about during the spring & fall months - I've never seen them in summer or winter, but during the months when the temps are under 85 degrees or so, they are there! I have heard there are deer up there too, but have never seen them.

Just a tidbit of info: the mountain pass is in Clark County. On the LV side of the mountain the road is called Blue Diamond, on the Pahrump side of the mountain that same road is called Hwy 160. Hwy 160 is the road that goes right down the middle of our town. If you stay on Hwy 160, it will eventually dead end into Hwy 95, just north of Indian Springs. It provides an alternate route into LV for us.

our one & only DMV office - they do not occupy this whole building, only 1/4 of it or maybe 1/2 of it.

one of our more....eclectic areas. all of these pictures are taken from the center of the parking lot, just turning around in a circle to get each shot.

in this location you can:

go to the casino
get a tattoo
get a drink at Paddy's bar
get something to eat at Gems bbq joint
stop by the welfare office
go dancing/karaoke/more drinking at the NCO Club
stop by one or more of the doctor's offices
