I bought a car that the ppl passed inspection on and right after leaving the light came on brought it back 4 times now and they put new egr valve in and new plugs but now they say they will not check the codes again unless the car drives ****ty. they light was flashing which I looked up that for my car means there is a misfire in the engine. that would not pass inspection right and legally do I have any grounds to make them fix it?

You probably do but getting it enforced would probably cost you more than having another garage make the repair.

Welcome to the "Live Free" state. That is free from pesky regulation that you have to sell an inspectable vehicle.

check lights do not automatically mean failed inspection, depends largely on what the code is and what it is affecting.

Exactly I drove my Shadow for over 8 years with a check light on - didn't effect the driveability or the inspection. Previous owner did a modification that put the engine light on after I bought it...no harm no foul - don't sweat it.

a loose gas cap can signal the check engine light to come on. Newer models require the cap to click three times. There are a variety of reasons, and not all of them affect the engine.

Drove an '85 olds that had the light on constantly. No problems with the engine - and passed inspection.

You might want to state the make, model, year, and miles on odometer.

Did you do a CarFax or similiar search before purchasing?
Did the car come with any warranty?
Did you read the warranty?
