Very excellent advice. i think that most people would be responsive to this, unless they had some personal issue or pain in their life with which they are they are dealing .
There are basically two kinds of 'Granite Staters':
1. Those who were born here.
2. Those who were not.
If you move to small town NH (which I highly recommend) you will always be in the second category, no matter how long you live here. We've been here 25 years and are still classified by the natives as 'flatlanders'. About the only thing you can do to overcome this handicap is get used to it. In NH the natives are, for the most part, standoffish and taciturn to someone they do not know. This doesn't mean they are unfriendly. It means that if you want to get to know someone YOU MUST work at it in the right way.
Up here a person who would venture into another (stranger's) back yard carrying a 500 watt worklight on a stand would probably come under immediate suspicion as being a raving lunatic. New Hampshirites are not at all fond of cookies, but will love you to death for a quart of good vanilla ice cream. The local cusine here is the foot-long hot dog.
Anyway, the best bet to meet new people in NH is by:
1. Walking the neighborhood endlessly waving (always right-handed).
2. Attend bingo and community suppers (VFW/etc.)
3. Attend town meeting.
4. Join the fire company.
Hope this helps. BTW: NH is a gggggggreat place to live, work and retire.
It's like the rest of this country used to be.
