You might want to ask your immediate neighbors about how deep and the cost of their wells. What sort of ground they have to dig through matters too. Just so much variation. And not every hole yields water.
We have three wells on our property, courtesy of a former well-digger owner. One pump needs to be replaced at a cost of $600. And my handy boyfriend has done all the work of pulling up and removing the pump itself by sheer stubbornness and brute strength.
I've heard the number $10/ft tossed around - whether they find water or not.
$10/ft seems too low. For another property we looked at, one which didn't have its own well and would need one dug, we figured $10K as a maximum cost for one.
One thing for sure is the depth of the well can change drastically even in the same neighborhood. The link above is helpful but I would call for an estimate. One company that I have worked with before was Skillings and Sons. They were great.

Most well drillers base their estimate on the depth of wells in the neighborhood.Generally they are all the same.

An estimate is only a good educated guess on the part of a reputable well driller. But the OP should be ready to pay more than the estimate, just in case they have to drill deeper for his well. Hopefully not though.
A good friend of mine just had a new well drilled in Conway by Skillings. The quote was for $10,500 for up to 500'. Each additional foot was $10.00. They had to drill 1000' so the price jumped to $15,500. His neighbors wells are all at 700-1000' so he knew what he was in for.
