Spent one summer there back in the early 50's....stayed in Red Fox lodge
Wonderful experience and learned a lot about nature and the lake

I know of a camp Idlewild on Cow Island (lake Winnipesaukee) that was owned by the Roy's - Is this a different camp or the same one? If it's the same one on Cow Island my wife's family has a history with the area. Her Grandfather attended Camp Idlewild as well as her father. Later when the camp closed and the land was subdivided her grandparents purchased a lot near the old swimming beach on the north side of the island and built a summer house. My wife, who grew up on the west coast, started going to Cow Island every summer starting in the late 80s. Shortly after I moved to California I met my wife who was very much excited to learn that I was a NH native...10 years later we now have our own young children and make the trek from California to Cow Island every summer (sadly not this year). We often have all four generations on Cow Island at the same time. When you walk across the island to the docks you can still see remnants of the old stone chimney's from the sleeping cabins as well as some of the leftover fencing from some of the sports fields. I believe there's portions of the old windmill still visible as well. Several structures from the old camp still exist near the boat docks including the original camp store. It's a beautiful and special place, even to someone such as myself who grew up not all that far away.
