Looking for recommendations for restaurants near the lake region. No chain restaurants. Preferably a good steak house, but open to all suggestions. Willing to travel.
Also, opening to suggestions on must see things. Such as stores, parks, scenery, ect…
Not a steak house, but Walter's Basin in Holderness is a decent lunch spot. Looks out over Little Squam. They have recently trimmed their hours(standard lack of employees type thing) so they only do lunch on Thursday-Sunday.
Edit: Are there any steak houses in NH? Preferably north of Concord?
Lakehouse Grille in Meredith. Not a steak house, but they have steaks. This is part of the Common Man chain of restaurants, but it’s a local chain and each location is different. They have excellent food, a casual but upscale sort of vibe in a great location, right on the water.
My favorite is Shibley's in Alton Bay. Their regular menu is great and their daily specials are fantastic. 9 times out of 10 I go for the special and usually bring some home. Outdoor dining is right on the water. And their cocktails are always on point as well. The one restaurant that never disappoints...
Patrick's Pub in Gilford is always fun, casual, great for lunch, amd something for all ages. Casual, Not a steakhouse but worth putting on your list.
If you're looking for a steak house - just a few miles from Alron Bay is Granite Steak & Grill in Rochester. I've only been a few times but you might give them a try. They're not a chain but they do also own Windjammers Seafood, also in Rochester (haven't been there yet).
El Lago is also a Common Man facility. Beautiful view of the lake, steak was above plain but not really extraordinary, dinner for 2 was $110 before tip. If their plates were hot, perhaps it could be noteworthy, steak arrived barely warm. As is, good try. No reservations.
At one time, the Common Man restaurants were worth visiting, and a few locations (for us, Windham & Meredith when it was still Boathouse Grill) were even good for special occasions. As they have grown, that feeling of being someplace special has diminished - even in the more casual diners. Once they opened at the Welcome Center, all hope was lost - they feel like just another corporate chain, buying locally-owned restaurants to add to their family... (even though they are still locally owned & operated).
