New Hampshire comes in the 25th spot, with $-4800 per resident. Connecticut comes out worst ($-62,500 per resident), Alaska comes out best ($55,100 per resident).

Interesting that 4 of the top 10 states with the best finances have no state income tax, and 0 of the bottom 10 states with the worst finances have no state income tax. Almost like there's an inverse correlation between having a state income tax and how well the state is run.

Those results are not surprising.

Talking We're #25! We're #25! Perfectly adequate, neither above nor below average!

Bottom 5 worst include MA, NJ and as mentioned above, CT.

NH is the highest ranked of New England, and pretty good relative to the rest of the northeast:

Most of our arrogant neighbors are in the bottom 10: New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont and New Jersey.

It's almost as if the closer one gets to NYC, the ****tier everything becomes. It's a shame that pit stands in between New England and the rest of the US.

Those arrogant neighbors are moving up here in droves. It won't be long before NH looks like those other states.

The New York City metro is what I call flyover country.

Keep in mind that if NH, especially southern NH, wasn't geographically and economically tied to greater Boston, it would not be a very affluent state. NH dropped to 37 in a CNBC poll for business friendliness from 25th last year. NH high cost of living, inability to keep or attract college graduates, and a quickly aging population are factors in businesses not locating there.
