My husband and I are looking to move to Cherry Hill to start a family. We heard that there is a relatively recent policy whereby students in Cherry Hill West can attend Cherry Hill East High School if they want, and vice versa. However, we are not sure if this policy will still be in effect by the time our future kids start high school in 15+ years, if there is a fee to send your kids to the other high school, and how transportation would work. Given our lack of information/knowledge about this policy, my husband wants us to limit our house search to Cherry Hill East because he thinks the schools are better on the East side. I, on the other hand, am a little worried that East will be too competitive, but would feel better about our decision to move to the East side if I knew our kids could attend Cherry Hill West if they wanted. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

The policy has been in effect for quite a while. It's a long story, but the policy can't go away.

You're the first person I ever heard contemplating a move to Cherry Hill that was worried whether or not they could send their kid to CH West, lol. As others said, you can send them to either high school, your choice.

Feel free to choose where you live in Cherry Hill based on the house/street/neighborhood you like the best. There are buses available to the schools. Here's an example: we have friends who live on the West side--their sons are swimmers, and they chose East because, for the past few years, they have had an excellent Boys' Swim team. People with girls right now who are good swimmers choose CH West--because their Girls' Swim program has been stronger lately--go figure!! From what I hear, Middle School placements are the most competitive. They are done by lottery. There seems to be a strong desire of late for Rosa International for middle school...some parents become quite upset if their child doesn't get a spot in that one.

Just make sure to consider the kids too. You don't want them to have a 15-20 minute commute to high school.
