It seems that alot is going to be happening in Burlington City within the near future. Its a really cute town, with a great location. Though it seems to have a troubled past, it seems to have great potential. Could anyone offer any suggestion, best areas of the city to purchase ... any new developments that might be happening along the waterfront, etc? anything good and/or bad about the city would be welcome.

Really nice town in its day...but I cant see it making a comeback. Its just too low priced, too far flung, not enough going on, etc

I wish it could clean up though, some of those old houses could be so nice looking

Default burlington city

I am from the area of Burlington City. The city is small compared to Burlington Township, which is much larger. There are growth problems all over....money, money, money.....being the main reason for lack of growth. The city offers reasonably good housing areas, but it is limited. No real growth area that I can see. But housing cost is reasonable compared to surrounding areas. The waterfront is a potential growth for the city, if they ever figure out WHAT to do.............hope this helps

If your looking for a city like Burlington City, but don't want the headaches associated with it, try Bordentown City. Nice old city with lots to offer.

When I was 20, I remember a friend of mine purchased one of the old homes near the river in Burlington City because it was going to become a new "old" area with development and new life.

I'm now almost 40 and it hasn't happened yet.

That is really discouraging. Its so hard to find that small town feel, for a good price ... without issues. If we could all afford places like Haddonfield or Princeton, that would be a different story ... but we can't. I've heard Bordentown City is nice, but that alot of the businesses have closed down for some reason or another.

Is crime as bad as they say in Burlington City?

Richmond homes is building there.. we bought a Richmond, down in Williamstown.

I don't read the paper so I have no clue what the crime is like there. In the almost 15 years I've lived here, I've not seen much change there.

What are you looking to spend?

Richmond homes is building in Burlington City? Whereabouts?

I'm looking to spend as little as possible ... most likely 200K or under would be ideal.

Bordentown City is very nice. Right on the Delaware - there are apartments, single family homes and attached. It really is nice. I don't know much about the business closing - probably just because of the economy right now - but it won't be long if there are any vacant shops. I'm sure Bordentown City is in your price range - and yes - Burlington City is as bad as you hear.

Royal Oaks (http://www.richmondamerican.com/Shop+and+Buy/View+Community.htm?mr=Southern%20New%20Jersey&cm=1 269&=ID=1269&Type=Community - broken link) says it's on Marter ave. IIRC, it's right over 130 from 541

Don't think you'll find anything new for that price though. I'm in Browns Mills, used houses are going for $150 - $200+
