Hi All,

I am planning to move to Voorhees from Philly with my wife and 2 year old. We really like the town but could use some insider or knowledgeable information as there are many aspects you just can't google. My main questions are:

1. How do the elementary schools rank against each other? Obviously each has it's ratings on Niche but what makes one better than the other?

2. What are the more and less desirable neighborhoods? There are so many choices that all seem nice. Are there any I should avoid?

We'd love to find something in Sturbridge Lakes (which I imagine is true of anyone with small kids) but the housing stock is pretty limited. We've checked out Beagle Club and Alluvium Woods as well but we're not sure where we should settle because of the elementary school questions.

Any recommendations and tips of Voorhees would be very helpful.

I don't think there's a "bad" school/section, but I think Osage is considered lower than the others.

Related, I think I heard complaints about the Town Center area on the internet, but I'm not an expert on the area yet.

Echelon/Ashland area by the town center is considered less desirable but not in your face bad, just a bit more working class and has more in common with other towns down that way like Lindenwold, Lawnside, parts of Berlin etc. A few of those areas feed into the same high school as Voorhees which seems to cast a dark shadow on the town. But there is nothing wrong with Voorhees as a whole.

Elementary schools would probably be ranked best to worst:

ET Hamilton
Signal Hill
Kresson
Osage

That said, Osage is still a good school, and the differences between the other three are just pretty much splitting hairs. You can’t go wrong with Voorhees schools. The area that feeds into Osage would be considered lower class than the rest of the town, but that area is still much better than Londenwold, Lawnside, etc. That’s not a fair comparison. Somerdale, maybe. But Lindenwold is a considerably bad and dangerous area that not even Echelon deserves to be compared to.

Gibbsboro and Berlin Borough feed into the Eastern High School, but that schoolbis still about probably 85% Voorhees students. For neighborhoods, it really just all comes down to what you can afford. Developments like Sturbridge, Alluvium, and Beagle Club are all considered safe and desirable...assuming developments are the kind of thing that appeals to you, of course.
