The husband and I live in Hoboken - he works in the city and I work in Jersey City. We're wondering if there's a good town to raise a family that offers an easy commute into both NYC and JC. Ideally, easy would mean less than 1 hour commute w/o too much transferring.

Bus, trains, lightrail, path are ok. Anything but driving.

We've looked at Westfield, Ridgewood and Montclair and like those areas. We're willing to consider similar towns with nice downtown areas.

TIA!

Think of Rutherford, North Bergen (its beautiful along Blvd East), Cliffside Park, Palisades Park, Edgewater (although its getting pricy), try most towns along the Bergen/Main line.

The Morristown, Summit and Chatham area comes to mind. Also there are many Park and Ride Bus Lots in Parsippany, Whippany.

Personally, for this area, I'd want to raise kids in Manhattan if at all possible. The cultural opportunities that are virtually on your doorstep are unsurpassable.
