I am looking to purchase my first home, and some people have suggested that I look into what a mortgage broker can do for me vs. what I can do myself dealing directly with big banks. I wanted to only use a big bank so that I knew who I was dealing with, but I have found out that most mortgages are sold fairly quickly after closing anyways so it really doesn't matter who I deal with. Does anyone have any suggestions of a good broker in central NJ, or how I would find one? I am in the Princeton area.
i'm having a good experience with the hills mortgage company in warren. DM me for the guy's name. i'm refinancing now, also shopped them for my mortgage but a connection at bank of america got me a better rate at that time.
My co-worker used a guy in Wall, NJ. He did everything over the phone with him and was very happy with him. His name is Anthony (732) 749-3333. I believe there are 2 Anthony's, so you want to ask for the accountant (should be the younger guy working there).
I just bought a place and was going to use Anthony, but since I was putting 20% down I decided to go with Wells Fargo. The person I've been working with at Wells is great, but if I did it over again I probably would go to a Credit Union since their rates seem to be lower.
I obtained quotes from big banks, small banks, and a mortgage broker. The rates were all pretty much the same. I was surprised that all of them quoted me with the same rate (different APR's tho?), i expected to get different quotes from everyone.. Anyways the big or small banks are not charging an application fee, but to use the broker I would be charged $695! So I'm pretty sure I am going to use a small local bank since they do their own underwriting. Thank you everyone for the advise tho!! :0)
