Police can't strike so the state government assigns an arbitrator who settles the contract. I never seen a police officer START at over 100K but that's what your saying. I joined the wrong department. You know whats interesting is I was on a thread from California and they had officers pay from either San Francisco or San Diego posted. The chief made over 500K and the deputy chief made over 400K. They also had many captains in the 300s. I should have joined out in California. I just checked the San Diego thread and it's titled 223,000 pension for librarian. It's on page 2, scroll down and someone posted officer salaries from out there. Many 3 and 4 hundred thousand cops out there. So I guess it's not too bad here YET.

I'm with Jersey Man. Show me one department in NJ that starts out at 100K and that is where I'm going. There is no way Little Egg Harbor starts at 100K. I think its funny, no one was complaining about public employee salaries (i.e. teachers, police, municipal employees, etc.) when the private sector was doing very well. However, now that the economy has taken a dive and may private sector jobs have plumeted, people are upset with public employees. Its the I don't have it anymore so you can't either mindset. Also, when you really think about it, how far does 100K get you with the cost of living in NJ, especially if you have a family to support.

I am not sure whether it is the true mindset, I suspect it is because when the private sectors are not doing well and people are looking into possible cut back and begin to ask questions. I went out with friend for lunch last month, she even looked into cutting back on tips. (I am not saying whether it is right or wrong and I certainly do not know whether it is possible for a salary to start at 100K.)

is it safe in little egg harbor? Then the cops are doing their jobs and being paid accordingly. We lived in philly.. you have no idea what its like to live in a very unsafe area.. Stop complaining.. Where we are they start at 95k but they know their jobs and do an excellent job.. Safe, quiet area... You get what you pay for
