Depends on what kind of gun he has and if he shoots targets and or hunts.

One cheap way out is to go on-line and find one of several sites that allow you to print targets for 22s, handguns, rifles, or shotguns. These targest are of every conceivable format.

Gun cleaning kit or individual products like bore cleaners or silicone impregnated rags to wipe down the metal parts.

Ammo is quite 'personal' as brands and construction are very specific for use and may 'print' differently in different firearms. You would have to have 'intimate' knowledge to score well in the ammo dept.

A real gun safe would be a huge investment.

Can't go wrong with a gun case, used when transporting the gun.

Gift certificate to a pheasant hunting preserve like Burjans in Three Bridges.

Shooting glasses.

Ear plugs.

A shooting jacket.

A cable safety device.

Gift certificate to Cabellas or Gander Mtn.

Photograph the firearm and record the serial # as a precaution he may not have done... a freebie along with the targets.

Pick up a hunter safety course Cd required by the state before buying a hunting license for the first time as part of the safety course.

Reloading equipment, again requires intimate knowledge of intentions and desires.

Remind him he can't drive thru MA on his way to hunting in Maine with a pistol in his trunk without notifying MA authorities he will be passing thru their state.

Default To lighten the mood a bit....

A guy cruises thru a stop sign and gets pulled over by a local policeman. Guy hands the cop his driver's license, insurance verification, plus his concealed carry permit.
"Okay, Mr. Smith," the cop says, "I see your CCW permit. Are you carrying today?"

"Yes, I am."

"Well then, better tell me what you got."

Smith says, "Well, I got a .357 revolver in my inside coat pocket. There's a 9mm semi-auto in the glove box. And, I've got a .22 magnum derringer in my right boot."

"Okay," the cop says. "Anything else

"Yeah, back in the trunk, there's an AR15 and a shotgun. That's about it."

"Mr. Smith, are you on your way to or from a gun range...?"

"Nope."

"Well then, what are you afraid of...?"

"Not a damn thing..."

because thats a realistic interpretation of what might happen. because in places where people can legally carry, they are having gunfights all over the place.
