According to Wiki: The census statistics include residents of a youth detention center located at the northwest edge of Chesterfield Township, on the border with Hamilton Township.
That is what is skewing the demographics, also I believe it shares a zip code with Trenton. Other than that, Chesterfield is about as white bread as you can get.
Yes, that is true. I have a friend who teaches there.

The statement "...include residents of a youth detention center located at the northwest edge of Chesterfield Township, on the border with Hamilton Township." on Wiki ends with citation needed and according to Wiki, to ensure that all Wikipedia content is verifiable, anyone may question an uncited claim by inserting a {{Citation needed}} tag. Okay, does this mean it is or is not true? I never noticed this before.
There definitely was a detention center there, I don't know if it is still there though.
I think there is also some military families presence because of McGuire? In the schools anyway, not sure about in Chesterfield itself, not sure how the housing works.
Chesterfield is fine. Some people are attracted to it because of the real estate prices being a bit cheaper. They have new construction, as you've already seen, that is a bit cheaper than that in the greater Princeton area.
For basically anything, you'll be driving up to Hamilton though, be aware of that! They built that big Hamilton shopping center though on 130, which was great for Chesterfield and those towns around there.
Great thanks, how is the Hamilton shopping area? Is it nice?
It's nice. It's relatively new, right on 130. Has everything. You know, kind of one of those big sprawling outdoor mall places. Groceries, all kinds of shopping, a Barnes and Noble, lots of restaurants. It's called Hamilton Marketplace.
There is also the Shoppes at Hamilton, which has more clothes, upscale stores, etc.
well, my wife went to look at the new developments and she said the houses are very pretty, but they are all very similar and are on top of each other........... I will see for myself, but sounds a bit disappointing

They only have so many models. Not too surprising that the houses would be pretty similar. They definitely have some areas with very small lots and the houses are on top of each other.

The youth detention center is in Chesterfield on the border of Bordentown actually. I have lived here for 10 years....a problem has never arised - there is really no reason to be concerned.

The zip code for Chesterfield is 08515 - same as Crosswicks. We used to share a zip code with several towns - including Trenton, Yardville, Bordentown ...But its been several years since that changed. Chesterfield has grown quite a bit and quite quickly in the last few years with the construction of several new developments including some townhomes. The diversity in Chesterfield has also grown - saying we are as "white bread as you can get" no longer applies to this town. It's a great town to live and raise a family in. That being said - the new developments are that of a cookie cutter variety. The new houses are very close together and they don't have much property - they are nice though. If you want something more rural...there is still plenty of that too. All the new developments are in one central area of Chesterfield.
The elementary school is brand new. It just opened a couple of weeks ago. Its huge. I have 2 children. My son is in 3rd grade. Its a decent school. Not the best - but I wouldn't consider it a bad school. Sometimes you just have to stay on top of them. I wouldn't not move here because of it; and schools are very important to me. The problem with the elementary schools around here is that they are all their own districts. So when they get to the middle school and they are merging with the other schools, sometimes they have all learned at different paces or levels. But they do all even out. Chesterfield children, (along with Mansfield, North Hanover, Springfield, and Maguire AFB) go to the Northern Burlington Regional High School District beginning in 7th grade. Middle School is 7-8 and of course High School 9-12. My daughter is a senior. This district has been fantastic. I have had no complaints, my daughter has only flourished (she's a straight A student) and I look forward to when my son attends.
