I handed in an appraisal with my appeal application. The tax assessor told me that the appraiser did not need to be present at the hearing which is on Friday! Is the appraisal going to help me in court without the appraiser there?

Just got back from my hearing. It went real well. Not like anything I expected. I went early (this is key) and settled before with the assessor. Kind of like when you go to traffic court and meet with the state attorney and plea bargain. He basically gave me what I asked for anyway so there was not need to go with the hearing.

It is a constitutional issue. The government cannot assess a property higher than true value.

true value is a moving target (especially now) and highly subjective, don't you agree?

Awesome! I was going to try to do it but didn't know it had to be in by April 1st; so if we are here next year; I will do it. Some of my neighbors appealed; I haven't heard if they had their day yet.

Are you comfortable saying what town you're in?

I have a tax appeal date set for June 28th, but I had submitted my appeal online, and yesterday I got a message saying they had made me a settlement offer and to log into the appeal site to view it. The settlement offer was for an assessment of $5,000 LESS than I had asked for. I could accept and esign if I agreed, and I did. Now it has to go to the municipality for their acceptance.
