I'm planning on moving on a budget and need to know the closest city to Manhattan in new jersey .if you know of any cheap places in the city please tell me.
The closest/shortest commute to Manhattan will be from a place close to a PATH train station in Newark, Harrison, Jersey City (Journal Square, Grove Street, Newport/Pavonia, Exchange Place) or Hoboken.
All of these places have good or gentrified neighborhoods (more expensive) and not so good neighborhoods (cheaper), but in general you'd probably find the cheapest places in Harrison (not because it's a bad or unsafe place, per se, but because it's not as hip or trendy as parts of Jersey City, Hoboken or Newark).
The closest city to Mahattan would be Fort Lee at the GW Bridge, Jersey City at the Holland Tunnel, and Weehawken at the Lincoln Tunnel. There are plenty of towns that are near these areas but a general rule of thumb to be used is that the closer you get to NYC, the more expensive the real estate gets. It all depends on your budget.

Of course, you could always move to The Bronx, Brooklyn or Queens--all of which will be less expensive than Manhattan (and unless you're hugging a border, closer than New Jersey, too!)
Even Leonia would work for you... Its a bit cheaper and you could either take the 182 bus right over the GWB (which you could do in Fort Lee to, or just walk), or you could take the 166/166express through the tunnel. The bridge is fastest, 10 minutes, as opposed to the 166, which could be 1.2 hours or the 166 express which is 30 mins no traffic. your best bet is to go somewhere where you could utilize the GWB.
Fort Lee, Weehawken, Edgewater, Hoboken, and Jersey City would ALL be equally considered "the closest city to Manhattan" because they all lie across the Hudson River directly west of Manhattan. Fort Lee has a bridge crossing the river, and Weehawken and Jersey City have tunnels. Hoboken has the PATH train and ferries. Weehawken has a ferry. Jersey City has some cheap places to live, if you don't mind living somewhere ratty. Living anywhere decent right on the towns bordering the river is obviously going to cost you because everyone wants to live there.
Exactly what sort of budget do you have? That could help you get better answers.

Fred is right.......................... Try the Bronx.
You seem to have little interest in the actual community or its eventual outcome, so it seems appropriate.
