My husband and I are looking to buy a house in Cranford. We both work in nyc and were originally only considering homes within walking distance of the train station. However, we are thinking about putting an offer on a house that is a little further than what would be a practical distance to walk. I know that Cranford has a parking garage with permit parking available, but I'm wondering if there are generally spaces available. Does it fill up early or can you usually find a spot? Thanks!

Last I heard from a friend who lives in Cranford and commutes via the train is that there is a waiting list for the parking permits. I believe she had to wait ~6 months for a permit, during which time she was able to park in the daily spots, but those cost more per day, and fill fast/early. She says her neighbor bikes to the station, and there are racks and lockers available. I'd recommend calling the town to ask ability about the availability and wait list...considering that train ridership is up, I'd be surprised if there was not a waiting list.
I remember seeing a sign in the Cranford train station a while back that said monthly parking passes are available for Cranford residents at the Union station. Not sure if that's still going on and if so, if that's part of the wait list. Either way, there's a daily parking lot that you can use anytime
