Hello All,

Hope someone can help with some advice. I am getting ready to make the jump over the outer bridge to central jersey. I am interested in Matawan, Middletown and Hazlet area. I would not rule out Manalapan or Freehold but I work in Midtown Manahattan and I think the commute from those two areas would be much longer. Anyway. I am married and have a six year old and my mother in law lives with us as well. Good schools and a family friendly neighborhood are important. Is it reasonable to think I would be able to find a house in the 350 - 375 K range in these areas? I am taking a big hit on my house that I am selling now but my taxes are much lower than what they will be in Jersey.

Any info on these areas would be great. Better parts of different towns or stay away from these areas. Thanks to all in advance

Best Regards,
Mike

Hi Mike,
I made the jump in 1972 at the age of 9. I have watched the area go under a huge transformation. I gew up in Matawan - kind of small town, average school district. Your price range should work well here. I presently live in Manalapan and have since 2002. The area has fairly good schools and tons of shopping. That being said, it's very congested and the area isn't what it used to be. I've been noticing tons of litter in all the shopping malls lately. The area also lacks local parks. You will get more bang for your buck in Freehold and they have a decent school district. Don't know much about Middletown but have always heard good things. Good luck w/ your search.

I'm a REALTOR here in Central Jersey I specialize in Somerset County and Middlesex County. I think Bridgewater and Bedminster are great and have Blue Ribbon Schools. You can certainly get decent house for that price range.
