I'm a current New York City resident and I am considering moving to New Jersey. I've taken a look at Jersey City neighborhoods specifically Greenville (as my budget is low). Anyone who lives in this area, can you tell me about any particular negatives such as crime? How is the family friendliness? Any particulars about education and public transit accessibility?
Can anyone also recommend similar areas in terms of housing pricing/availability?

I recently moved to the Jersey City waterfront near Exchange Place and Paulus Hook. So far, I am loving it. Proximity to NY is great, neighorhood is quiet, I have parking and easy access to the major highways.
Greenville isn't that bad, depending on where you end up. I'm bored and raised in Greenville.
As long as you stay West of JFK BLVD, there are many apartments for cheap with nice middle class families in the neighborhood. If you're close to Westside Ave or Kennedy, you can get a bus to JSQ which is the central hub for all transportation to NYC.
Stay away from the East side of "The Hill", if any of the cross streets match up with one of these: Ocean Ave, Garfield, MLK, Bergen, and Old Bergen. Look somewhere else. The neighbors are friendly in this part but crime and drug dealing are mainstays.
Greenville is not the best. But then again , I really don't like JC in general. I've tried but it just seems like urban wasteland everywhere. You should check Hackensack , Teaneck, Englewood along Rt. 4 have buses that easily leave you @ A train 175th st. w/o traffic its like 10-20 minutes.
Yes, the towns mentioned above have their " bad " areas , but what place doesn't ? These places have desirable areas and also the not so nice areas..depending on where your from these " bad" areas would be considered good by some people.
These areas are in Bergen County and its nicer than JC .
I feel like if someones gonna move to Jersey City , you might as well move into New York City. All the reasons why you wouldn't want to live in NYC are present in JC.
