This reminds me of an incident in Australia a couple of years ago, concerning two girls who decided to explore the local storm sewer system, and became lost and unable to find their way out of the concrete maze.
Did they use their cell phones to call Australia's equivalent of 911?
Nope!
They updated their Facebook status to reflect that they were lost in the storm sewers, and needed help.
Only because somebody with whom they were acquainted happened to see this Facebook status update, and only because that person did notify the local police promptly, were the girls rescued relatively quickly.
Apparently, some folks nowadays can't seem to figure out that a direct approach is more logical and much more efficient than asking for help in an indirect manner.
