My husband and I are looking for ANY towns with downtowns that won't completely kill us on taxes, that are north, south or between Bayonne and Manville so we can visit our families. We were thinking Denville, but are there any OTHER cute little friendly towns...even with nice serviceable villages that maybe I just don't know about?? The more the better...I don't mind taking a long drive to check it out!!

To help you men and women out, I've already researched: Hoboken, Montclair, Verona, Westfield, Cranford, Morristown, Jersey City, Ridgewood, Chester, Madison and Millburn etc. Thanks ever so much.

PS. We do not have children, so schools or "kid" activities are not a concern.

We're still in the info gathering stage. Any other suggestions would be great to help in comparison shopping. When we finally do go to a realtor, we'll be better prepared. We haven't written off Montclair, Verona, Cranford. We don't want to spend more than 400, or pay more than 8K in taxes, which sort of shows you our dilemma.

If you're already looking at Denville & Morristown, stop in between at Morris Plains -- smaller downtown but nice and a great community.

Rockaway also has a small downtown. Branchville has a very small downtown but may be too far.
Define what you are looking for in the downtown area.

I'd go with Cranford. Also try Garwood as it's close to downtown Cranford but a bit more blue collar (could be cheaper.)
