My wife and I plan to be in the Stanhope, New Jersey area in early November. If we decide to take the train to New York from Netcong, how available is the parking at the train station? We would plan to take a very early weekday train.

I'm not the authoritative source but I doubt you'll have an issue.

There are two lots of parking for a total of about 250 spaces available at the Stanhope station. If you take an early train to the city, you should have no trouble finding a space. I have driven by during the day quite a few times and while there are plenty of cars using the lots, never have seen the lots be totally full. According to the NJT website that location has no fee for parking which is quite nice!

A couple of things to note though:

You also may want to look into purchasing your ticket online, as IIRC there is no manned ticket counter at the station.

NJT recently put out a notice that the rest rooms at Penn Station NYC will be closed for renovation starting Nov 4. And being that your train trip will take you around 110-120 minutes to reach NYC Penn from Netcong....
