I am looking for a good area to move my family near the Goethal Bridge. Criteria is good schools, safe, can be townhome or single family....even consider apartment. Rent up to $2000 a month for three bedroom. Would love to keep it at 1500 if possible. Looking for a hour commute or less? Consider more for great schools and safe area! I dont know much about the NY/SI side or New Jersey Side????
Stating that you want, " a one hour commute or less", but not telling us your destination, makes this an essentially worthless--and frustrating--exercise for other forum members...and for the OP.
The OP knows his commuting destination, but everyone else has no idea about his commuting destination. As I used to tell my students, I have a lot of credits in history, psychology, sociology, and geography, but I have no credits in mind reading.
Unless the OP expects us to read his mind, he needs to reveal his commuting destination.
You should look as far west as Rockaway Township NJ. That is the border of suburban to rural country and still about a 45 minute drive most days or less. Anywhere from there and closer.
I hope you know Graniteville - the section of Staten Island near the Goethals Bridge - is a hole. Ain't no better than Elizabeth on the NJ side of that bridge. Damn, what is all this hype about Staten Island lately. To quote the old lady from Karate Kid "this place is a dump, you should go back to New Jersey."
Keep in mind if you are going to be working on the NY side of the Goethals bridge and you choose to live in SI, you will end up paying NYC city income tax, so that would take a bite out of your paycheck.
