I am a nice, quiet, disabled African American Woman in late 40's looking for a nice, quiet suburban New Jersey town in which to relocate. I am living in a beautiful suburban town now but the rents are out of this world. I have Section 8 subsidy and there are not many choices to live in a decent area. I would need to have access to public transportation and be close to trains that go into New York City. I prefer Essex County Or South Jersey. I have thought about Roselle Park, Elizabeth, Union or Bloomfield.
Have you checked out Plainfield? Suburban feel, not too terrible, quick access to NJT trains to New York.
I would hesitate to recommend Plainfield to anyone, and I definitely would not recommend it for someone who is disabled, and who would provide a very convenient target for the young thugs who prey on people in that town.
I think that Roselle Park might be a good choice, as would Millville.
Look in Morristown , Rahway , South Amboy...in North Jersey.
If you want South Jersey look along the Riverline , its a Light Rail line that runs every 15-30mins depending on the time of day. It has connections to the Atlantic City line for Service to Atlantic City and Philly , PATCO service for the NJ suburbs of Philly and Center City/Old City Philly. It also connects to the Northeast Corridor in Trenton and mutiple SEPTA and NJT buses at most stations. The rent along the line varies between 500 and 2200 for a 1 bedroom , look in Beverly-Edgewater , Delanco , Riverside , Bordentown and Roebling...

True. She might have a hard time running from the gunfire.

How about Linden? If you're considering Elizabeth, I personally would pick Linden over it. Roselle Park sounds like it would be good for you but you mentioned train access to NYC and in RP you need to switch trains in Newark while Linden is on the Northeast Corridor Line, meaning it takes you right to NY Penn. It's way easier IMO.
Elizabeth also is on the NE Corridor Line with two train stations direct to the city.
Also, you said you like Essex County or South Jersey but 3 of the towns or cities you mentioned are actually in Union County.

The only RL town she should even consider is Pennsauken, and even that's a stretch.
Woodbridge requires a car, as does Clifton.
Neptune is worse than Plainfield and has poor NJT service.
Morristown just won't happen.
