North Jersey? You could throw a dart. Here are some of my picks:
Sandwiches - A Family Affair or Giovanni's Deli in Fair Lawn, Bogie's Hoagies in Hawthorne, and Italian Riviera in Waldwick. La Strada is gone, both in Midland Park and Ridgewood. The Midland Park location is now Grosso's Deli, owned by the same guy that owns Johnny & Hanges. I tred them once, and found the sandwich to be OK, but not as good as the other places.
Groceries/Specialties - Italian Riviera, Vitamia in Lodi, or A&S Pork Store in West Paterson (I still refuse to call that town "Woodland Park".) Corrado's in Wayne is also a good bet (and Billy, their fresh mozzarella guy, is tops.)
and a twist!
I lived in West Paterson for 9 years. The name change thing is ridiculous. Woodland Park my ass.

Jerry's in Englewood is very good for sandwiches and some italian stuff but I think Clemente Italian Deli & Bakery in South Hackensack might be my favorite. Their fresh Mozzarella is amazing!
A&S Pork Store was a grand salami!!!! See what I did there. Ha. I had a perma grin for an hour after we left. Everything I was looking for. Prosciutto and fresh mozzarella sandwich was to die for. So simple, so great. Atmosphere was awesome and they had everything I could have wanted. Olives, sausage, bread, cheese, and of course octopus salad. Thank you so much for the advice!!!
I will also recommend Esposito's although I think Sergio's in Denville is much better. La Casa Formosa in Northvale and Belgiovine Deli in Montclair are both pretty good also. I find Corrado's to be hit or miss some days, they are never my first choice.
Personally, if I am looking for mozzarella specifically, I go to Joe's Italian Deli in the Bronx on E187th st, IMO its the best for mozzarella in the greater NYC metro area, plus you have all the other Italian spots on Arthur Ave for your other needs. I am in Essex county so for me its the same distance to the Bronx as it is to go to Denville.

That was my aunt's go to spot when she didn't want to drive over the gwb into the Bronx (she used to live in Englewood Cliffs). I always enjoyed sandwiches from Jerry's.
