TBH I'm not aware of that phenomenon and I know a lot of Indians
From what I've observed, the Caribbean is the destination for those who really wanted to become doctors and didn't make it into med school here.
There's always dental school.
And to paraphrase Chris Rock about black ppl and white ppl living in Alpine - "i live in Alpine. Mary J Blige lives on one side of me & JayZ on the other. You know what the white guy down the block is? A dentist! An f-ing dentist!"
I was just reading how this is going to be a problem everywhere.
its really bad for patient..............
As Marc Paollela will attest, the market will take care of it. Law schools have proliferated in the past 30 years to keep our population of land sharks thriving. It's not like Medicare/Medicaid reimbursements will drop to pennies. It's a made-up problem by those afraid of change. I think our medical system has sucked for everyone except the insurance execs.who make $30M a year to be middlemen. We should've dismantled it 30 years ago and gone to single payer. Certain basic human endeavors like education, healthcare & military shouldn't make the private sector filthy rich.
My neighbor doctor says in retrospect he should of become a veterinarian
Only if he loves animals because the pay for Vets is pretty low compared to other medical fields that require advanced degrees. There are no insurance companies to deal with which is nice but if money is important to you, Dental is the way to go, as EBWick mentioned. No insurance companies and very good compensation.
Average is 80k. Average does not tell the whole story. I remembered a joke that if Bill Gates walk into the office, the average network in the office is a billionaire.
80k is not a lot of money. Consider tax take out about 30 to 40% when living in the state of NJ. Then they have to repay the 1/4 to 1/2 million in student loan. Room can easily cost 1 to 2k/month. I doubt it they can save anything.
If they move out and still able to make the same if not more and save 7 to 8% from NJ income tax, then drop the rent to under 1000. That's add up to a lot of money.
COL takes out about 15-25% not 30 to 40% , you can live very comfortable making 80k in NJ , if you lived here you would know that.
No insurance companies with dental? I have dental insurance.
Yes, but dental insurance is much different than medical. There is much they don't cover. As a dentist, you can specialize in lucrative areas that are not covered by insurance. Also, with dental, the patients don't have the expectation of 100% coverage on anything except maybe cleanings. And even then, most dentists charge out of pocket and then send in the insurance papers for you, at least in my area. If you need a crown, and the dentist bills you more than insurance will pay (which I can guarantee), do you not pull out your credit card and pay on the spot? There are no games, like with medical insurance.
