I'm unemployed at the moment. I'm thinking of doing my own daycare if nothing comes through before my unemployment runs out. I know my landlord will let me, but will raise my rent. I was just wondering if you put your child in a private daycare, with four other children there (you can only have 5 in a home daycare), with a certified teacher, how much would you pay at max per week?

Before you plan anything, I strongly suggest that you speak with your insurance agent regarding the type of insurance that you would need, and the cost of that coverage. When you find out how much it costs, you might just decide to forget about running a daycare service in your home.

I know much it's going to be with my rent increase and insurance. That's why I'm asking what would be a reasonable price. So I can see if it's worth it.

You will need a separate type of insurance to run an in home daycare--it's not just an increase of your honeowner's insurance.

Omg! I've already looked into these things. If people aren't going to my question, please don't reply.

Yes, plus how much would you be willing to pay this "certified teacher" you plan to get? Would she be willing to work cheap, with no benefits, etc.?

LOL, oops, sorry.

I don't have a little kid anymore, but maybe you could call other daycare providers in your area who work out of their homes and see what they charge (pretend to be a parent). This woman and her daughter across the street from where I used to live ran a daycare. They did well because they were near an elementary school, and they did after school care as well as a few younger kids. Neither the mother nor the daughter were that intelligent but they didn't even have any kind of teacher there, just watched the kids, but they made a living doing it. The kids were safe and looked after and I guess that was enough for the parents.

I was also going to mention that it is necessary to have one additional employee, even with as few as 5 children, simply because once the OP needs to use the lavatory, the children would be unsupervised.
However, I am not suggesting it, as this type of information will probably be rejected.

Please stop replying as you just want to make this off topic.

I have a baby boy... I'm not sure what the going cost of daycare is (I work from home), so my number may or may not be useful...

I would say $200-$300/week though. Again, I'm not sure what the rates are these days, or any days for that matter. but I don't think it's unreasonable.
