New Jersey has Livingston and Cherry Hill and Paramus and Marlboro and Montclair and Roseland
And these towns are modern and really nice

I would agree that Montclaire is mostly a nice town. But it is very far from being a city. I think Morristown is nice as well. Paramus is just a suburban sprawl with the clogged highway (root 17) in the middle. The "Paramus Park" is incredibly a huge mall. I am not aware of any down town area.
NJ is a mainly a suburban state, unfortunately. Most people who move there I think are families priced out of Long Island, Weschester and CT NYC suburbs who still want to own a house. Or young people grudginly moving to JC or Hoboken because they are priced out of Manhattan or Brooklyn.
No towns from Central NJ and up is safe because criminals travel up and down NJ and loves going to expensive towns like Short Hills and Paramus to carjack, do a quick house break in, or rob a credit union or local bank at a nice part of the town.
Not enough police force and too many stupid rules where a criminal outruns a trooper pass city limit and they have no
The reason is we have too many poor areas nearby where the criminals live and breed. Get rid of these towns or gentrify them before crime could go down.

Yea, if someone is uncomfortable in a wealthy NJ town, they likely won't feel safe in NYC or Philly, to say nothing of Trenton, Newark, Bridgeport, etc.
What's so nice and beautiful about living or visiting Newark, Camden, Paterson, Jersey City?
Newark has nice areas like Forest Hills which has Mansions , its next to Branch Brook Park which is very popular and a beautiful park designed by the people who designed Central Park. The Ironbound has over 180 restaurants , Cafes , Tapas , Bars , and Taverns , Spanish , Portuguese , Mexican , Italian , American , Burgers , Japanese , Chinese and Brazilian. The Cherry Blossom festival in Branch Brook Park attracted an estimated 200,000 so far , the Portuguese festival in a few weeks draws around 800,000 people. Various Downtown Events at the NJ PAC and Arena draw millions every year and are rated highly...
Jersey City regraded as an Extension of New York City these days , its similar to Brooklyn...
