Raze it & let the ocean re-claim it for all I care. Just stop wasting our money on it. Same with American Nightmare in the Meadowlands. Bad ideas don't get better over time.
So what's the solution then? Let it rot in hell as a beach version of Newark?

Personally, I think the city has been through too many half-assed attempt to generate "family friendly" and high end tourism traffic. AC needs major corporate funding through a slew of hotel chains, leisure corporations, and local city pride to get it back to yesteryear levels. When that (or if that) will even happen, I'm not sure.

There is a lot of potential for AC because it's near a body of water. I wouldn't say it's totally screwed no matter what.

-Aside from Gambling, there's not much to do. Yes you have a few outlet stores, restaraunts, and night clubs. But not enough to sway a non gambler to spend a wknd in A.C

-The surrounding neighborhood is a dump! Looks like a scene right out of Death Wish starring Charles Bronson.

Case study in corruption and in bad planning. Think Xanadu in the Meadowlands. This is what NJ does best....poorly planned projects managed by corrupt people. It is our highly educated voter base...they've made sure to put the right people in the right posts.

AC was never properly planned to be competitive into the future. It is a horrible "experience" from the moment you enter the city limits. There was never any real effort put forth to make it a nice place to visit. Good riddance....the best thing that could happen to that town would be the demise of the casino industry.

NJ voters get exactly what they want. We are a provincial, selfish & myopic voter base. In the end, you don't really care what happens to Atlantic City as long as it doesn't effect your pockets. As long as your municipality is safe & your school system is highly ranked, the rest of the state be damned.
Multiply that mind frame times the endless amount of miniscule little feifdoms & it creates the perfect environment for curroption & waste. It's like trying to heard cats. No one is watching. No one is held accountable because 'who cares; it's not my town'. This is the prevailing theme of NJ politics.
Nothing will change though. God forbid you consolidate with your surrounding municipalities. Oh no. Not with "them". Your future little president is to good to go to school with the likes of "those people".

As an American who has spent the better part of the last 6 years residing in Europe I can tell you every Italian/European knows that Las Vegas is a gamblers paradise not to mention an actual US destination city just like NYC and SF. Now, I have not met a single Italian that has ever even heard of AC. So again I wonder, since there has been so much competition from other states instead of building another Mega Casino why didn't AC build an all year round INDOOR West Edmonton/Mall of America style theme park with amusement park rides, water park, maybe even a ski slope or aquarium with an entertainment arena for theme shows and concerts? Certainly that money would have been better spent.

Perhaps it is 10 years too late for that but at least for the money they would have created a shot at becoming a viable US (family friendly) destination. What do you all think?
I agree with this idea. It should have been done long ago. Once they started razing older--and sometimes historic--buildings, they should have just leveled the rest of the city. A (mostly) indoor, outdoor water park, ski slope, more amusement park rides, maybe skating would have been a good idea. Diggerland? A decent surf shop would be a nice addition.

I don't think any of this is going to happen and that it's probably too late.

Definitely a site candidate for Obama to send all those illegal children... Of course, Christie approves

You mean that the house does not always win?!

Back from bitching on govt / politicians / NJ, etc to Revel for a few sentences:

I am sad to see it go. We went there a month ago for the 1st time and loved the place (I can't stand the rest of AC though I've never been to Borgata).

The staff was very well trained, very polite. The place was impeccably clean. Loved the dining options there. Best of all: the whole hotel was non-smoking.

I agree with the bold part and I am happy for that. NJ voters have a massive pension problem and tax problem that they have created with their voting record over many years. Can't wait to see the voters in NJ solve these problems. I wonder how they will do it?

Sad. Why couldn't have one of the dumpy AC hotels fail instead?

That's a loser mentality.
