NJ voters get exactly what they want. We are a provincial, selfish & myopic voter base. In the end, you don't really care what happens to Atlantic City as long as it doesn't effect your pockets. As long as your municipality is safe & your school system is highly ranked, the rest of the state be damned.
Multiply that mind frame times the endless amount of miniscule little feifdoms & it creates the perfect environment for curroption & waste. It's like trying to heard cats. No one is watching. No one is held accountable because 'who cares; it's not my town'. This is the prevailing theme of NJ politics.
Nothing will change though. God forbid you consolidate with your surrounding municipalities. Oh no. Not with "them". Your future little president is to good to go to school with the likes of "those people".
THIS. You've summed up my thoughts on the subject better than I could myself.
Sad state of affairs going on now in Atlantic City--it's reminiscent of rust belt cities losing manufacturing--one after another. I think what Atlantic City should do is continue to par back the gambling--as a lot of people here have mentioned--and continue to diversify. More specifically, I think they should become similar to a Myrtle Beach, SC/Branson, MO/Gatlinburg, TN resort/destination town.
Atlantic City could become a Myrtle Beach "north" and have a huge indoor water park and mall (as someone said) built, focus on entertainment type attractions like Ripley's Believe it or not, golf courses, bumper boats, small amusement parks, and play up the New Jersey "brand."
What about a gambling themed amusement park? Sounds cheesy and corny, but if done right, it may be a success. Think Dollywood style but gambling focus on history, sort of going down the historical yellow brick road of gambling.
Close to 6 flags could be an issue.
What about an indoor water park that was warmed and sits on the beach and is year round LOL...just thinking original here....Atlantic City needs out of the box thinking.
Anything will do, so long as it doesn't wind up like Florida!
There's no way this could ever happen. That said, a lot of Shore communities are retirement destinations, albeit on a much smaller scale (and even then, there are still a lot of snowbirds).
Actually, he did stick everyone in Atlantic City 20 yrs ago (maybe more) and at that time he was like a God. Don't know why something didn't happen with his Casino License or these bills become liens. Why Not? Donald never hired me although he would ride around my jobs in his limo!
The 47-story Revel, touted by Gov. Chris Christie as a model for Atlantic City's rebirth, has been a tremendous failure. It lost more than $100 million in its first year of operations.
The deal, touted by Christie, would have returned in state sales, corporate and hotel tax payments to Revel for a 20-year period once the casino began generating profits. In return, the state would have received 20 percent of Revel's owners' profits.
But the casino has never generated a profit, so the tax incentives were never paid, state officials have said.

Well call me crazy, I'd rather have money go a lot of other causes than pensions
A.C is a dump. Here are a few reasons why it will be extinct within 10yrs
-Rival casinos in neighboring states
-Rooms are too expensive. I can fly to Vegas from NYC and stay at the Mandalay Bay for a wknd for the price of a 3 night stay at the Borgata on a wknd.
-Aside from Gambling, there's not much to do. Yes you have a few outlet stores, restaraunts, and night clubs. But not enough to sway a non gambler to spend a wknd in A.C
-The surrounding neighborhood is a dump! Looks like a scene right out of Death Wish starring Charles Bronson.
The bold is the reason why I would avoid going there. I met some older citizen and they said 30 years ago, AC was family oriental, now it is just a big gamble house. Only thing to do outside of gamble is hanging out at the beach or pool.
