no, you don't tip gas attendants in nj. but they'll be more than happy to take your money if you offer it.

I tip sometimes if they do my windshield/rear window, like $1.00. Some people tip for this and some don't. I worked in a gas station when I was 18 (MANY moons ago, lol) and it was about 50/50.

I drove for 7 years and never ever heard of tipping gas attendants until last year when my friend brough it up... I asked her what??? u tip them? but ur poor? why u worry about it? lol.

So maybe that's why some of them clean our already clean windshields.. i never forget to tip waitors and i tip them good but this i never considered..

I never have but I tend to go to the same station at the same time 2-3 days / week (yes, I commute a lot). Anyway, at Christmas I did give my regular attendant who is always pleasant and friendly a card with a tip.

I don't think the average gas attendant would even know how to clean a windshield.

Almost all Sunocos do it, at least down here. They clean them at the AC Expressway rest stop, too. It also depends on how busy they are, if you have one guy trying to keep up with 4 pumps and a line of cars he probably won't be able to.

I have spent more than 20 years of my life living in NJ, and have only heard of or seen someone tipping a gas attendant one time, and that was for putting air in a low tire.

Agree. I tipped a guy when he helped me put air in my tires.

Thank you for your responses. We lived all our lives in both No. & So. NJ before moving to NC 7 yrs. ago and never heard of tipping a gas attendant. Until 3 yrs. ago we were in Bergan Cty. for my sil's wedding, stopped for gas and the attendant looked at my husband and said, "tip boss"--and my h replied, "here's a tip, get another job". Then yesterday my h's nephew who pumps gas in O. C. made a comment in an email, "why do I always get tips when it is not raining". We just never heard of this and that is why I posted, we don't want to offend anyone when we come up to visit. Thank you I will let dh know. You are all so helpful on this forum.
