Are you driving to work in both locations?
Maybe Summit? It's a nice town. However, Summit is on a different train line than Edison. And, Union City has no train station.
Westfield is another town to consider.
Not sure what you'd get for $1,300 in NJ though. Maybe a studio, or a share?
