They are NJ biggest cities and so close to each other. They are similar, with similar people and similar problems. Would it be beneficial to both of them or either one of them if they just became a one big city?

seriously, newark and jersey city are some good miles apart. it's like a good 30 minute drive on the local route or on public transpo. don't know about newark and jersey city being similar especially when they're really trying to make jersey city like new york. if you were to walk around those areas with the brownstone by newport mall, you'd think that you were in brooklyn heights or park slope. ridiculous. the only thing they have in common are the hoods. i didn't think jersey city was really that bad until i was on ocean ave some years back in the fall. it was real hot outside around there if you catch my drift.
I think splitting up Newark would be better, the more gentrified parts become their own towns...
And yea, they are a little ways away, why not combine JC+Hoboken if you're talking 2 close areas.
No , Jersey City and Newark are 2 different beasts , ones turning around and the other one is stuck at the present time. Elizabeth is fine aswell , there all in different counties and run differently. There should be some merges in the surrounding towns like East Newark > Harrison , All the towns / counties in the NJ Gold Coast....
Jersey City & the rest of Hudson Co feel more alike than JC & NWK.
Newark, East Orange, Orange, Irvington........................ That should be the Essex Co consolidation.
Maybe JC and hoboken...or bayonne or something. I could see hoboken...
Actually Newark and JC are well connected via 4 Railways , 3 highways , 2 pipelines and 2 power transmission lines. With Future Light Rail and more Regional Rail connections in the works....

I think he's saying more geographically. One couldn't really walk from Jersey City to Newark as one could from Jersey City to Hoboken. But either way, makes no sense to join JC and Newark as one.
no no, this is a great idea. while we are at it we should pick up camden and drop it in between, you know, close the gap.
but really, why would we do this? someone said above it would be better to separate some of the sub divisions, and thats right. combining two crime ridden cities, would just make the beast too hard to control. why JC and newark?? what about Irvington and Newark? at least they are next to each other. Something that large would be really difficult for police to patrol and control, and with the fantastic budget decisions our fancy pants governor is making, that place would be out of control.
In reality more than half of the cities/towns should merge.
We have more muni's than California and they have 37 million population compared to NJ's 8.5 million.
Obviously we have way to much govt.
